Description
Shoot Wrestling is considered a "folk Style" of wrestling in Canada, originally termed "Chin Na". It was introduced in Canada in 1987 by Ron Beer and contains elements of Judo, Grappling, Freestyle Wrestling, Karate, Kick Boxing, and Kung Fu.
Triangles are one of my favourite research subjects. When I was young, I had heard of a great Japanese Judoka, who had been undefeated for ten years. This man's name was Kimura. It was said that Kimura Sensei had one favourite throw, one favourite arm lock, and one favourite choke. It was the choke that inspired me; a Triangle with the legs was his favourite choke.
So I began a quest to ride on the coat tails of Kimura and discover the secrets of the Triangle. At the 1964 Olympics held in Tokyo, Doug Rogers, a self-taught Canadian, won a silver medal in Judo. He was then invited to train with a great master - Sensei Kimura. Doug Rogers and my Judo Sensei Bill Doherty are friends, so some of their techniques are handed down to you in this book.
Triangle holds are unique as you use your legs instead of your arms to control and subdue your opponent. Triangle sit-ups are taught with a ball and will improve your strength and ability to lock and hold with the legs. Solo person drills like sit-ups and Shrimping show the finer points of how to develop the Triangle. Even footwork drills are taught so that the solo wrestler can develop and enhance their ability to perform Triangle holds. Triangles are the most important holds in the Shoot Wrestling Canada repertoire.
