Description

Shoot Wrestling is considered a "folk Style" of wrestling in Canada, originally termed "Chin Na". It was introduced in Canada in 1987 by Ron Beer and contains elements of Judo, Grappling, Freestyle Wrestling, Karate, Kick Boxing, and Kung Fu.

In May 1998 at a western conference, it was decided that we should adopt a national standard for the belting system. This would allow for students to be ranked yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and black. The yellow through brown belts would be identified by having a black stripe through the center of each belt. The black belts are all black with the Shoot Wrestling Canada logo embroidered on one tip of each belt.

The Black Belt Certification will provide learning in a sequential order of knowledge, allow for a chain of command from beginner to advanced, and provide a goal oriented system. It also allows the martial artist to earn respect from one's peers and be nationally recognized.

Anyone can take part in the program and belting system. However, to participate in the black belt grading, a candidate must be a minimum of sixteen years of age.

A Shoot Wrestling Canada Black Belt and/or a Level One or Level Two Certified Coach may grade a student up to Brown Belt. However, only the National Grading Board may grade a person to Black Belt. The Grading Board is made up of three Level Three Certified Coaches that are also Black Belts.
